I have been for­tu­nate to receive a num­ber of awards—as a stu­dent, teacher, and researcher. I view these dis­tinc­tions as recog­ni­tion of the dili­gence with which I have always approached my work.

I am deeply grate­ful to the insti­tu­tions that chose to honor the work I have done, whether indi­vid­u­ally or in col­lab­o­ra­tion. These awards serve as moti­va­tion to con­tinue striv­ing for more—and bet­ter.

• Aca­d­e­mic Merit Award for achiev­ing a grade point aver­age of 14 or higher (on a 0–20 scale) dur­ing the 1992/1993 aca­d­e­mic year and for advanc­ing to the next term with all course­work suc­cess­fully com­pleted.

• Indus­trial Asso­ci­a­tion of Minho Uni­ver­sity Indus­try Award for hav­ing in the 1993/1994 aca­d­e­mic year the high­est grade point aver­age among final-year stu­dents in the Licen­ciatura in Infor­mat­ics and Sys­tems Engi­neer­ing at the Uni­ver­sity of Minho.

• Engi­neer António de Almeida Award for achiev­ing in the 1993/1994 aca­d­e­mic year the high­est grade point aver­age among final-year stu­dents in the Licen­ciatura in Infor­mat­ics and Sys­tems Engi­neer­ing at the Uni­ver­sity of Minho.

• Guimarães Town Hall Award for achiev­ing in the 1993/1994 aca­d­e­mic year the high­est point aver­age among all final-year stu­dents in Engi­neer­ing under­grad­u­ate pro­grams at the Uni­ver­sity of Minho.

• Braga Civil Cab­i­net Award for achiev­ing in the 1993/1994 aca­d­e­mic year the high­est grade point aver­age among all final-year stu­dents in under­grad­u­ate pro­grams at the Uni­ver­sity of Minho.

• Uni­ver­sity Sen­ate Award for achiev­ing in the 1993/1994 aca­d­e­mic year the high­est grade point aver­age among all final-year stu­dents in under­grad­u­ate pro­grams at the Uni­ver­sity of Minho.

• National Engi­neer­ing Award for achiev­ing in 1994 the high­est grade point aver­age at the Uni­ver­sity of Minho among stu­dents enrolled in accred­ited col­leges of the National Asso­ci­a­tion of Engi­neers.

• Out­stand­ing Paper Award at the IADIS Inter­na­tional Con­fer­ence on Infor­ma­tion Sys­tems 2014 for the paper titled “Infor­ma­tion Sys­tems Secu­rity Poli­cies Adop­tion: An Insti­tu­tional The­ory View”.

• Diploma of Recog­ni­tion of Ped­a­gog­i­cal Merit of the School of Engi­neer­ing of the Uni­ver­sity of Minho 2021 for high ped­a­gog­i­cal merit and qual­ity of teach­ing/learn­ing activ­i­ties in the 2019/2020 aca­d­e­mic year (dis­tinc­tion granted in the first edi­tion in which the diplo­mas of ped­a­gog­i­cal merit were awarded). This award had a spe­cial sig­nif­i­cance, as it reflected eval­u­a­tion by first-year under­grad­u­ate stu­dents in the Fun­da­men­tals of Com­puter Pro­gram­ming course—tra­di­tion­ally regarded as highly demand­ing and labor-inten­sive. To enable a more informed judg­ment, the fol­low­ing descrip­tive sta­tis­tics are pro­vided for that course dur­ing that aca­d­e­mic year: 184 enrolled stu­dents, 83% pass rate among enrollees, mean score of 13.4 (on a 20-point scale), with a stan­dard devi­a­tion of 2.0.

• Out­stand­ing Paper Award at the IADIS Inter­na­tional Con­fer­ence on Infor­ma­tion Sys­tems 2022 for the paper titled “A Gram­mar for Infor­ma­tion Sys­tems and Tech­nol­ogy Com­pe­ten­cies”.

• Diploma of Recog­ni­tion of Ped­a­gog­i­cal Merit of the School of Engi­neer­ing of the Uni­ver­sity of Minho 2025 for high ped­a­gog­i­cal merit and qual­ity of teach­ing/learn­ing activ­i­ties in the 2023/2024 aca­d­e­mic year. Receiv­ing this award was also very ful­fill­ing as it rep­re­sented the eval­u­a­tions from post­grad­u­ate stu­dents in a course—Man­age­ment of Infor­ma­tion Sys­tems—that requires them to artic­u­late and inte­grate busi­ness, orga­ni­za­tional, and tech­no­log­i­cal issues at an advanced level. To enable a more informed judg­ment, the fol­low­ing descrip­tive sta­tis­tics are pro­vided for that course dur­ing that aca­d­e­mic year: 158 enrolled stu­dents, 80% pass rate among enrollees, mean score of 13.9 (on a 20-point scale), with a stan­dard devi­a­tion of 1.6.
